Artist Statement #2

My final piece of artwork was a story of a student on a weekend going to a library to get some work done. I had fun looking through the multiple sound file submissions to try to patch together this person's life, sort of like a puzzle. I have never before worked with sound editing technology or tried to make a piece of art in this format so it was definitely a learning experience. It was nice that the program was not too difficult to grasp and honestly really fun to work with the technology. I had the same plan throughout my planning process, the project felt a bit overwhelming so I wanted to choose something that felt simpler following something personal that follows my own life. I think my piece was able to communicate the prompt that it feels pretty down to earth and follows the story of just an average person. I think I definitely could have been more creative with the prompt if I didn’t get worried about the quick deadline. I think compared to some of the others I got to hear mine was pretty simple and less creative in a way. I could have used more effects. I tried to be pretty conservative with them because I wanted that sense of reality of a student walking around. But this project’s purpose seems to be to take risks and make an interesting piece of art, not a realistic one so I definitely wish I decided to be more out there. But in the end, I'm still happy with it and had a lot of fun making it.
